Food Agriculture & Nutrition Network of Solano County

Building Healthy Families & Healthy Communities

Our Story

In 2003 USDA encouraged States and Counties to collaborate with USDA funded program and their partners to work together toward a common goal to reinforce and amplify each other’s efforts.  In Solano County we started FANNS (Food, Ag and Nutrition Network of Solano) in 2004 and have been meeting 4 times each year. The task is not easy as Americans are flooded with competing messages and environmental settings that promote sedentary activity and high fat, high sugar foods.  The food industry spends billions of dollars each year on food advertising.  In comparison to all the contracts of USDA food and nutrition services programs’ combined, who receive approximately $600 million for nutrition education.

Our Core Values

  1.  Nutrition Equity
  2. Sustainability
  3. Education
  4. Community Collaboration
  5. Evidence-Based Research

Our Mission

Our mission is to build sustainable, healthy communities and healthy families by increasing equitable access to safe, healthy, affordable, culturally diverse foods and beverages in Solano County.

Our Vision

We envision a county in which local communities and residents achieve nutrition equity, supported by connecting individuals to nutritious food while strengthening local and regional food systems. By helping create safe and healthy communities we will support people who's quest is to achieve their full potential for health and well-being.
